Re: Food Aphrodisiacs Fact or Myth?

Unless the brainiac KC can find us an article that actually proves this fact I think its all in the head. I heard that red smarties are Aphrodisiac....do you all even have smarties in the states?? Not sure.
Anyways I think this whole notion is like the "placebo effect" meaning that if people "think" its an aphrodisiac then they act accordingly. If you don't believe it than nothing will have that effect on you. Just like hypnotism......its all in the power of suggestion.

To me.....men's cologne turns me on MORE than any food ever did!

To be honest with you.. I think that it's like a placebo! If you only believe it's working..LOL! Like I know it's prooven that chocolate stimulates certain hormones in women that are the same as the ones that are created through sexual arousal. In most cases I think it's down to prefferances, and tastes!

Have you ever watched SexTv? There was this one episode where these guys were boring holes in fruit like watermelons and stuff and sexing them!

Well it is a little bit more than just "placebo effect" becuase chocolate contains substances called Phenylethylamine and Seratonin, both of which simply put are mood lifting agents found naturally in the human brain. They are released into the nervous system by the brain when we are happy and when we are experiencing feelings of love, passion or lust. This causes rapid mood change, a rise in blood pressure and increasing heart rate, inducing those feelings of well being, bordering on euphoria usually associated with being in love and wanting to make love.

Eating chocolate also releases Phenylethylamine and Seratonin into the system producing those these euphoric effects, plus it can give a substantial energy boost thus increasing stamina - caused by the sugars.

So there you have it, calling Chocolate an aphrodisiac is probably stretching it a bit, but eating chocolate does make you feel good and can actually induce or 'mimic' the feelings of being in love...
