I am proud of both my sides..black and white. I don't consider myself either as I am equally proud of both. I consider myself mixed..which is exactly what I am. I have ancestors that suffered..and probably ancestors that inflicted suffering.

I don't hate my white side for what it did to my black...because it didn't happen to me. I am angered and saddened at what white people in that era did..and I am saddened at what the black people had to suffer. I have learned from their mistakes...which is why I no longer see skin color as an issue...or something of importance, although I am proud of certian aspects of both.

Do you really think that black and white people should not " mingle" as you put it?? I'm just reading again what you said about admiring Dr Kings stand on the issue but not agreeing with integration.
If you can show me where i said I BELIEVED they should not, I will say "Yes".

I said I did not admire MLK for that reason. My reason for admiring him was based NOT on his fight for integration, but his fight for equality. I also said that I did not admire Malcolm X for his fight for segregation, but you conveniently ignored that as well.

You obviously havent been on ETJ long enough to know so, if you really want to know how I feel about integration and inter-racial relationships then go ahead and asked. So far I have not expressed my opinion on that since we started the debate.

Re: Racism amongst us...Let's just Talk.

Our generation does not suffer that which we do not create ourselves.

Our generation does not have slavery...legally it is all outlawed and in the past. Our generation would not have racism if it was not passed down from generations of people who prefer to focus on the past versus a bright future!!

This is proven. I have two close black friends who were raised by white parents. Their parents raised them to be proud of who they were...and their culture, one is from Haiti and one is from the US. But they never brought the whole black and white history from the slave days into the equation other than acknowleging a horrible part of their history, and those kids kids do not see skin color.

If a young person is racist..it's because racism has been brought into their environment. It's been taught and passed down..with exceptions. From the day slavery was outlawed..it's people who continue the same old attitudes that bring racism forth into the years ahead!!!

If a parent drills into their kids the evils of the white man..or the black man...of course the child is going to grow up with tendancies to feel hosility or uncomfortablness towards the other side. Or even if it's merely the parents make sure the kid knows firmly what went on nearly a century before they were born in a negative manner that suggests we should continue to seperate and dislike each other!!

It's best to acknowledge history..and take pride in where we are today...but stop blaming each other for decisions and actions that had nothing to do with us..the ones living in the here and now.

How can you heal from something that wasn't done to you?? Some of my black ancestors were slaves...but I do not feel the personal pain they felt. However I do feel a STRONG sense of accomplishment that we live in a different age..and that a man whose father was black..and mother was white...a product of two people from either side..is leading the United States.

And for every racist white person..there is a racist black person right back. And now we are on equal terf...the slavery years are gone..nobody has an excuse on either side anymore!

Here goes....
I have absolutely NOTHING against anyone who choose to be involved with someone of another race. People should be free to follow their hearts where ever it may lead. No race, religion, class nor creed should be a deterrent to one's pursuit of happiness.

Its important to note however that many such relationships do brings with it the stigma of rediclue, discrimination and oppression from others who dont agre with it. Such behavior can not only affect the parties involved but also their future off-springs for many generations to come. As such, they shoudl weight the pros and cons and determine if they are willing to deal with it. Some can, others can not.

For me personally...I could fall in love and marry a Green woman from the planet Vulcan and live happily ever after. But in searching for my other whole (not half), I instinctively begin my search closer to home. I LOVE my Black woman and have a great fascination for "certain attributes" that (though found in other races of women as well), is very abundant in Black women. I am Black, so I tend to FIRST look for love in my Black race.

Question not asked: "Have I ever dated out of my race?"
Absolutely! I have had relationships with women of almost every race except the aborigines of Australia..Whose ancestry incidentally, dates back to Africans anyway.

Another question not asked "Would I date out of race again?"
Beyond a shadow of a doubt.
In fact, I feel like flying off to Alaska and finding an Eskimo to marry so that I can move over there and live closer to Sarah Palin..

Re: Racism amongst us...Let's just Talk.

Well I guess at the end of this all...the biggest difference in our opinions is, you would date outside your race, but you still seperate people firmly by race. I don't care about race, and see people for who they are. Perhaps it's because all the kids in my family, save the youngest one, are adopted and we are all different races. We consider each other blood, yet we all come from different backgrounds. Skin color is irrelevant to me.

For me dating someone black is because I tend to have more in common with them, and I tend to be more attracted which is a combination of culture and physical taste. No different that someone who prefers a blonde to brunette. Not because they are black.

I also believe as long as people fear inter racial relationships/friendships due to backlash....backlash will continue. The more people break down the walls between races...the more accepted inter racial relationships become. Fifty years ago you wouldn't see as much of interacial friendships and relationships like you do today!! Fifty years from now our grandchildreden or great grandchildren to some, will think we were close minded!!

Ash I'm not pinning this on you because my gramma does it, my mother does it, LOTS of people do it. But I've noticed in Ash's last 3 work stories she does it.

When telling a story why do people feel its necessary to mention the RACE of the person in the story, when it has NO bearing on the actual story???
I remember LOOOONG time ago on ETJ I made a comment about a "greasy mexican" dude who was trying to hit on me and I was lamb-basted and practially hated off the planet by ETJ-ers. And Ashley always deals with "crazy asian ladies" when her story would have been the SAME if it was just a "crazy lady".

WHY do we refer to race when its irrelevant?
I think people do that to paint a picture... just like someone saying she was driving a "lime green car"... is lime green really necessary... NO... but it sure colors in the car for you.

Re: Racism amongst us...Let's just Talk.

Ok...

I'll tell my story from last Tuesday...

I went out with the man that I have been seeing... we had a lovely day and this incident in no way influenced the day but it did influence a moment...

He and I had just ordered our lunch and were on our way out the door when a black woman spit at me... she didn't actually spit on me but she spit at me... now this made Anthony very mad and he was about to confront her but I stepped in front of him and held him off with just a hand to his chest... I then turned to the woman and told her to have a blessed day and we both left...

We then went and had a lovely picnic in the park...

There are always going to be racist or prejudiced people in the world... that does not mean that we have to stoop to their level.

Afterward, he expressed how impressed he was about how cool headed I was about the whole incident and told me that the things I do like that are part of why he loves me. I told him there was no reason for me to get angry with that woman for the way she felt about seeing me with him and if I had acted out in hurt or anger it just would have made her feel justified in what she did... instead I blessed her and hopefully that will make her feel a little shame about what she did and push her to pray to God for guidance.
