I think honesty is the best policy. But sometimes you want to part but just so scared you are going to hurt this innocent person just dont know how.

Be honest.

I've been dumped "honestly" and I've been "avoided". I was very upset both times, and even told "mr. honesty" that he was making a mistake (he wasn't). But today, 3 years later, "mr. honesty" and I are still friends. On the flip side, I dated a guy who I just wasn't feeling...I was honest and straight forward with him about how i felt. We are also still friends. These are the only 2 past romantic relationships who have turned into friendships (coincidence?)

You may not care if you stay friends, but I think that being honest shows the person you respect them, which leaves them that much less damaged for the next person...

if you dont love someone anymore it will show so by the time you actually dump them if they are honest they will have seen it coming and wont be too shocked. you cant prevent them from feeling pain but you just have to walk away and let them deal with it. its totally wrong to 'help' them deal with the pain as it always leaves a false lifeline for them. a clean break is needed until they are over you and feel ready to handle a friends only relationship. for some this is never possible.
