Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

Hi, I'm new to this forum although I've been reading the threads for a while. I've tried searching information on this topic before posting but all I could find is information on the process for a fiancee visa or sending for someone after you've married them. My situation is a little different. To make a long story short, I am currently in a relationship with a Jamaican man who lives in Jamaica. We are in love, but I am definitely not ready to make a huge commitment like marriage. However, I would like my boyfriend to come visit me here in the U.S. without the marriage component. I found information online about the process but I'm not sure if I have to write a sponsorship letter, if so, what should be included in the letter?

On a side note, I have read multiple posts about American women and their relationships with Jamaican men (some good, some bad). I would just like to point out we are both in our early 20's, I met him while I was on vacation (not looking for a man) and we slowly fell in love. He has not expressed any interest in moving here permanently but due to the fact that I'm still in school, it would definitely be easier for him to come visit. So if anyone has any information on the process of obtaining a visitor's visa, such as how difficult it is to get, how long does it take, what is required, and if a sponsorship letter is needed and if so, what should it state, I would really appreciate it!

By the way, this forum is great, I'm glad I found it.

-Lina

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

I just went through a K-1 fiance visa and the filing of permanent paperwork, so I am not fluent on the visator visa at all. I did look briefly into it. It is my understanding that he must file for that visa in JA. He must show reasons for coming back to JA after that visit such as bank account(s), permanent job, real estate, family, etc.

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

From what I have heard, the letter has to state how you plan to support the person while they visit you. I know I sebnt a letter fro my girlfriend to come to Canada, she has $$ in the bank, a job, and plays Net ball for Jamaica National Team, they still DENIED her! Said to her I should have sent bank statements to prove I could support her while she visited here.
Not sure if the same in Us, but I imagine its pretty close.

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

Hmmmm..I am not too sure about the process...but maybe LuckyD could shed a little light on this. He has a visa and has travelled to the U.S. before and hopefully for my sake..will soon again!! I have looked into it before and I believe there are things they have to proove.....that they financially are able...rent or own.....have a steady job...bank account...etc...

Good Luck!

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

I think D is right about the prove you can support them when they are here. That would be if they can't prove they have the money to pay for their own trip and support themselves while here.

They have to prove "Strong ties to Jamaica". Basically, they have to want to come home.

I have heard horror stories about travel visa denials. Seems they are hit and miss on the reasons why they are denied.

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

Think it may depend on what kind of day the person processing your request is having. Pray for good days!!!!

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

My thoughts exactly - its all how you feel, I did tell her if she gets a man she may stand a chance - woman she would get denied - and it was a woman she got!

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

Ok ya'll, thanks!

I've heard of some of the things you mentioned but I needed some reassurance..

I guess we will begin that process soon..on a side note.. my hunny cannot wait until the whole process is over to see me so he wants to buy me a plane ticket to go see him at the end of September and stay at his home.. I haven't travelled to Ja by myself yet though (always with friends)..I'm excited to see him again but a little scared. I just came back from seeing him 2 weeks ago.. is it too soon?

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

caribgyal - I don't think it is ever too soon to go back! If someone was buying me a ticket I would be gone! As a matter of fact, if it didn't cost me $1,000 to fly, I would probably go every month.

I think it sounds like a great idea spending some time alone with him at his place.

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

How many times have you visited him? I recently went to visit my bf by myself and I felt comfortable doing so, but I did make him come and get me at the airport and bring me back via taxi (he doesnt have a car). Two weeks is only to soon if he is not going to get the visa soon, cuz if he doesnt get it fast then wouldnt you want to spread out your trips to see him, unless you plan on going every month.... Just curious how long you have been dating. You should share you story in the jamaica reports posts hotteach shared her story and it was so interesting. I am also dating a jamaican for 2 months.

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

Well I've been to Ja 2 times, I met him during my first trip in April of this year, after I left we started talking and officially were in a relationship like in May or so, then my next trip was just a couple of weeks ago but I didn't go alone, I went with a girlfriend who is dating my man's cousin. We were interested in the visitor's visa because we just want to take it slow (no fiancee visa for us! ) anyway, he told me he would come pick me up at the airport and bring me back.

I will try to post my story soon.

Re: Sponsor letter for a visitor's visa

I travelled by myself to JA 13 of my last 15 trips. No biggie. Jomo always did pick me up at the airport and drop me back off.

I would say 2 weeks is never too soon. Some of my trips were like that. Others were 30+ days apart. Until mlampo said it, I didn't think about it; but what she said is so true........if you are going through the long visa process, you may want to space those trips out a bit.
