Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?

I am not really sure why I feel like everyone wants to make me admit something here.....its kind of funny....but If he comes over here on any other visa and we decide to get married after we know that is the right thing to do, then he can adjust status for that reason, if for some reason I find my self in need of an immigration attourney I will be sure and announce it on ETJ..lol My point is that If you meet a person in Jamaica...and you go and make a few or even a lot of real short visits FOR ME that is not enough to apply for a fiance visa....If he can come here on his own and we can spend a more lenghty amount of time together, then we will know if Marriage is the right thing for us....again let me be clear I am not judging anyone, comparing anyone, or saying my way is right or wrong its just one way to do it...Lots of woman go through this process shortly after meeting these guys and only having spent short trip times together and they don't really know what the intentions of the person are or if they will even get along for the long haul because they have not spent enough time.....I know a few jamaicans here who got here just by marrying someone...it happens....and all I was trying to say is that the fiance Visa is not the only way to go....If it works for someone then thats what they should do....I cannot agree that I am ready for Marriage with out some long term on a daily basis time together...I know that not everyone can not always have that opportunity, but if its a possibility, it can be considered as an option......and I was only mentioning it in case some one feels like I do. Again the whole thread seems to talk about Fiance Visa....and The title is How do you Bring someone over well there are other otions...The other ways may be more challenging or more time consuming or more difficult to acheive but they are other options....

I think the only reason its cloudy is that I am trying to mention something other than what everyone else in here has or is doing.......and I feel like maybe some folks want to tell me I am wrong cause its not what they did.

By the way if we really want to keep it real, you can get them a fake identity and buy a visa for them too! I know some peeps who have done that!

Teach, I am NOT judging you at all. Your approach sounds level headed and realistic. Like I said, my husband did not exactly follow the correct laws, so I would never judge anyone that can find a way to be together, here in the states or anywhere else. And hearing what you just said about waiting, it seems that he will not be purposely breaking the law. However, read above......immigration may see it differently if you've been romantic for YEARS, even before his arrival here. If you do end up getting married, you may have to be awfully crafty on that Green Card interview. Again, no judgement. But remaining naive to the laws, or the experiences of others, seems a little......well, naive. I wish you all the luck in the world. But we make our own luck by educating ourselves.

Yeah I don't feel judged by you so no worries....I don't really feel the need to read all the immigration laws because...If we need an expert we have one in the family...an immigration lawyer....I don't need to become one... I just think that if some one wants to marry some one they met on a vacation...lots of time and caution is needed and if at all possible all options should be considered instead of leaping to the Fiance Visa so quickly.....aend of story....and I wanted that to be mentioned in this thread....I appreciate your comments as well the more different examples of peoples experiences the more informative the thread is.

People who promise the US government one thing and do something else completely. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy that di youngster "did what he had to do" to be here, but lets not kid ourselves. There is a statistical reason why some countries don't get many visas. It has to do with the rate of "return" to home countries, as and when dictated by their visas. The more people that get over on the government, the less that will be allowed the priveledge to do so in the future. Jomo and JG are actually the only ones following the law here. Isn't it ironic????
This is my point exactly, NYC....I hear people complain all the time on the visa web site about how long the wait is. I always say, it's because those before us took advantage of the system. So, the system got more and more complicated. And, as those in the future figure out short cuts, it will continue to evolve same way. I feel so bad for some of the K-3's or IR's; because of the hoops they jump through.

I don't advocate anything that immigration will look poorly on in the future. There are too many stories of people getting caught by circumventing the procedures.....and sometimes not for years. Regardless of the outcome, I play by the rules.

I'm not really worried this time, Sunny. I know it's under control. I had anal Mindy coaching me a bit when I was worried. I just hope it doesn't take too long...we have a DL and job riding on the NOA and then the approval.

this is so true.

in any relationship you ahve to be carefull. But in situations where all of htese ppl come on a finace visa....you got to think....if he didnt NEED to come here on a finace visa, would he even be marrying you?--

question for the masses....if your man has trouble getting to America/Uk ect...and the question of marriage comes up, do you think that citizenship and his need for it thru you is the motiviating factor in why he marrys you and if those (citizenship/visas) were easy to come by...do you think the guy would be marrying you?

Who said that in every situation the man has trouble getting to America / the UK, and who says that every Jamaican man wants to move to the US? You are assuming an awful lot that you know nothing about - and you know what they say about assuming.

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?

i dont think theres anything wrong with marrying for a visa. i mean if your in a ldr the natural progression of it is that one of you has to settle in the other's country so marriage is the easiest way of doing it. i nearly did it to stay in Ja. yeh it doesnt conform with romantic ideals of marriage but who cares about conformity. if i'd brought my bf to the uk everyone would be up in arms saying he was using me for a visa. but no-one complained when it could have been said that i was using him for a visa.
