Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
So true....Jomo's sister tested positive on her medical. Could be cause I am sure she smoked in the car on the way there. She just paid off the doctor. Got right on through.

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
Would you tell us some? I am always interested in the visa process of other countries too. Will you keep us informed on yours? I feel for you. I know how long, hard, and expensive the process is. Good luck to you.

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
JG...
From the research that i've done this is what i've found out. If I get anything wrong please feel free to correct it as im no expert & like I said its MY research. 1)*It is no longer possible to come to the UK and get married just like that. (Unless you and your spouse are EEC members) You HAVE to get permission/entry clearance from the British Embassy/Consulate/High Commision in the country that you are residing in, before you enter the uk. 2)*If you are appling for a VISITORS VISA, (VAF1) you have to prove that... *That you have strong ties to your country will return to your home. (Land/property/job/business/family). *If however you are being sponsored, your sponsor has to prove that they can accomodate & support you without recourse to public funds. *There is no appeal for a visitor visa unless you are a family member. 3)* If you are applying for a Settlement Visa as a SPOUSE (VAF2) you have to prove that... *Your spouse is currently present and settled in the UK legally. *You are Legally married to each other or in a civil partnership recognised in the UK. *You both intend to live together permanently. *Together you can support yourselves and any depedants without any help from public funds. * You have suitable accomodation, which is owned or lived in only by you and your household. 4)* If you are applying for a Settlement Visa as an UNMARRIED PARTNER (VAF2) you will have to prove that... * Any previous marriage, civil partnership or similar relationship, has permanently broken down. *You have been living together in a relationship similar to a marriage or civil partnership for 2 years or more. *You have suitable accomodation which is owned or lived in only by you and your household. *You and your depndants can live without recourse to public funds. *You intend to live together permanetly. 5)* If you are applying for a Settlement Visa as a FIANCE/FIANCEE (VAF2) you will need to prove that... *You plan to marry or register a civil partnership within a resonable time (within 6 months) * You plan to live permanently afterwards. *There is somewhere suitable for you & your dependants to live without recourse to public funds. *You and your dependants can be supported without working or claiming any help from public funds. More to follow......

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
Ladies:
I sent JG a private note asking for advise about my boyfriend whol lives in Negril and was deported from Texas after doing 2 years in jail there. He has been back in Jamaica for 3 years now and 2 more to go. I'm worried that he may not be allowed to re-enter because of this. The charge was some crap and because he didn't have the money for a lawyer, the got screwed. I contacted an immigration attorney and they said we can start the k-1 form and he would need to write a letter of waiver asking for forgivessness of what happened in the states, but I just don't know. I'm new to this site and I'm glad I found this site because not everyone understands you when you tell them that your in love with a Jamaican, so at least here everyone understands on another. Thanks for any advise you can offer. ![]() |

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
Good luck on that, then, too. You should talk to Swell about that too. She did just that; but ended up moving back home after a few years. She can tell you how difficult it all was. And, that was without Rupert having any law related issues.

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
Going through this now in the UK. They turned us down for ridiculoous reasons, even our legal adviser couldnt beleive their reasons. We appealed, unfortunatley late because of contradictory info given by the two immigration advice services that the UK home office referred us too on their own website. And now that got turned down too.
Now we will collate all the required data AGAIN and reapply next year January. It is a waiting game, you must have patience and tons of love for your partner. Personally I wont use a solicitor as they want heaps of money to do exactly what I can already do myself. All paperwork and requirements are on your homeoffice websites and you will find lots of free legal advisers as well as immigration advice lines which are free too. WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER!!!!! |

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
Thx!
That is an understatement. Before I met my husband and started going through all this I used to think "well, if your paperwork isnt sorted then its your own fault" but now that we are going through it all I feel totally betrayed by my government. After all the british Gvmnts' motto is "Family family family"....... yeah right! So how do we become a family when we are forced to live apart? Still, we keep going, and they cannot seperate us forever. |

Swell:
Tell me what you experienced while living in Jamaica. Was it very difficult to deal with. What area were you in? What about finding work. I'm going down next month to look for land or if i can find a home that is ready to go, I may just buy that. I can alway's use it as a rental property. |

Re: How do u bring someone from JA over to the States?
I didnt have any real bad experiences while in JA, we lived in the hills in Claremont. I also did not work, we had a car we used to run a taxi with that provided income for us(not as much as I would like mind you). Where are you looking to buy land or a house? Along the coast tends to be pretty pricey. Have a look online to get a feel for what is out there, Coldwell Banker has lots of properties that you can read and see online.
What kind of experiences did you have in mind? In order to buy a house you do need to get a TRN number(tax registration number) that is available from the tax office, without it you cannot buy a house, car, land whatever.
