Mixed Race Children

What do you think about having Mixed race children from an interracial relationship? Today at work we were discussing this issue and I had said that I would love to have a mixed baby I thought he/she would be soo beautiful...some people in the conversation said that it was a selfish thing to do and that mixed children are confused and have a difficult challenge. I however think that if a child comes from a strong loving family they will be just fine. I know many mixed race children in my school who are very well adjusted. What do you think ETJ?

Re: Mixed Race Children

I have mixed raced family and friends.....people are people, some are clear about identity others are not.

I do however think there is potential for confussion if a mixed raced child was to be adopted by two white parents, who may not see the importance of cultural identity and learning about heritage, but that's a different issue.

Re: Mixed Race Children

If you instill values and help build self confidence in your child, they can have the best of both worlds. There will always be those who are narrow minded with attitudes to match.

Re: Mixed Race Children

i am mixed and so is my son. our racial background is different (i'm filipino/white and he's black/white) but we look latino-go figure lol. i think it's no big deal at all and everyone i know who is of mixed heritage loves being who they are and have no regrets.

Re: Mixed Race Children

My father is Mulatto coming from a European background and he wasn't mixed up nor is my family on that side and I also have mixed nieces and nephews and they are doing just fine.

The world has changed drasticly and a alot of people are now accepting of who you are because just about everybody in America is mixed with something or another....

Wnen my next to the oldest daughter was in High School they put on the records that she was white and she tried to have it changed but they would not change it on her records at school. When I gave birth to her at the hospital she was born with blond hair and my mother-in-law said that I had her by a white man and would not come to see her.

My daughter is now in a University and only dates white guys and go to 9 Inch Nails Concerts. It's just in her blood partly because my mother is of african descent.

Yes, mixed children are beautiful..... so do you need Momma Star to babysit HOTTEACH??? Remember, I raised 9 children on my own and worked at two daycare centers...Now, does this qualify me???

Thanks for the offer I am sure you are highly qualified but....NOOOOO! I am not actually having a baby..I was just telling my friends that I would like to have a mixed baby. But unless my circumstances change drastically thats not happening.......at least not soon.

Re: Mixed Race Children

I don't think its the problem it used to be.... and more often than not it was the parents that caused the problem by feeling guilty....!!!

These days, everybody is everybody... anything is anything... ah no nutten!!

Personally I think people from mixed races / cultures are blessed - they have far more than the so called Pure Breeds - although, looking thru past threads, perhaps there are more Mixed Races than Pure Breeds....??

Re: Mixed Race Children

Almost 100% of the people on earth are "mixed". The only "pure" people left are in a section of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Re: Mixed Race Children

I think that the more mixing the better. If everybody had a mixed family we would cure alot of the problems caused by ignorance in this world. It is entirely up to the parents how a person views themselves. Also, I don't think Samsara's worry that white parents would necessarily ignore a child's need to know about cultural heritage is an issue. There are plenty of all-black families that do the same damned thing! Their kids grow up with not a clue about where they came from or relevant history.

I have a white kid who knows more about Caribean culture than kids of Jamaican ex-pats in her class. It's all in what you teach.

Yes, 4 .....{3 girls and 1 boy} of my own and 5 (boys) grandchildren and do you know when it was time for dinner I had those plates set up like an assembly line. Now, two of them are identical twins plus my son ant the other grandson who is three months apart from my son were all on pampers at the same time....How did I do it.....I had a whole lot of faith in God who brought me thorough...although things got a little rough at times for me, just to know that all my children love me deeply is my reward and that's all that matters.

I would have had 5 children before my last son who just turned 14yrs old but I lost my baby at the hospital and that was really hard because the doctor had to give me a sponteanous abortion...my temperature soared to 108 degrees.

Now you see why I love children so much I had a house full now I have one stepdaughter and one god daughter so that makes 11 children and my arms have room for more..... but not until I get back from Jamaica

And in my opinion the teaching starts at home!
