Says who? Show me the evidence of that. Back up that claim with some facts please.
Think about the logic of that claim. NFL is only popular in the US. Superbowl may be the most watched sports event in the USA, but the USA is the only country that really cares about it that much. The world is a much bigger place than the USA, and we nuh really rate NFL that much.
Football - the kind actually played predominantly with the feet, is the most popular sport in the world. World Cup gets way more views than the Superbowl. The World Cup Football final attracts viewership from all over the world. Entire nations lock down for the duration of the match and for days with the celebrations after.
Y'all Americans need to wake up and be real. America is not the world. There's no way superbowl could be the most watched sporting event in the world. Anyone who believes that deserves to have the wool pulled over their eyes, and buy that bridge in Brooklyn with their life savings.

The World Cup was first televised in 1954 and is now the most widely-viewed and followed sporting event in the world, exceeding even the Olympic Games. The cumulative audience of all matches of the 2006 World Cup is estimated to be 26.29 billion.[1] 715.1 million individuals watched the final match of this tournament (a ninth of the entire population of the planet). The 2006 World Cup draw, which decided the distribution of teams into groups, was watched by 300 million viewers.[36]

From here
A ninth of the entire population of the planet watched the last World Cup Football finals match. Superbowl cannot even come close to that. Not even the Olympics reached that level.
What is it with America and being slow to realize what the rest of the world knows from long time?
