Does anybody know a site (or a book) that discusses the early history of Jamaica prior to Columbus' invasion of the island.
Most histories of Jamaica seem to concentrate on slavery days, National Heroes or the trade union activites of Bustamante and Manley.
Sorry if the board actually has a history section. I couldn't see one while glancing through.
Slavery days have gone and Jamaica is now a fully independent nation, but the poorest people in Jamaican society still suffering hardship and discrimination.
If there is no history section, can the admin introduce one. There must be people on here anxious to contribute and many more anxious to learn.
Before 1492, there was no know historical recordings about that region of the carribbean. The little known is all based on anthropological research and pertains to the Tainos (Arawak) Indians of the region and not particularly about Jamaica.

Try "The Tainos: The Rise and Decline of the People Who Greeted Columbus" by Irving Rouse.
Happy reading.
