The Jamaican police are horribly underpaid, which adds to the temptation of corruption, graft, and bribing. If they were paid a decent wage, maybe they would not attempt to gain more with illegal activities.

Their uniforms are sometimes shoddy, probably because they don't have a uniform allowance. I have seen some with ripped buttonholes and collars visibly worn.
