This happened to me last Christmas as well...Tried to be honest and went through customs to declare..paid more then what they were worth..
Now I would make sure all tags are off and stuff out of boxes. If they question I would say they are mine to use..definately not gifts. and I would not go through the declaring line. They rarely check your bags going through the other line! IMO
