Re: Weh a gwan 2007 Abolition of Slave Trade
You know, as a white person in the U.S., I can't even pretend to understand how you all feel about the oppression you experienced. It all seems so recent. Blacks have been, and still are, oppressed in this country. I'm older, so I went through all the racial strife in the 60's, and I lived in the south, so it was pretty bad. I didn't understand it then, and I don't understand it now. I left my home state because I was sick of the stupidity, ignorance, and racism of the people I grew up with.
I did a genealogy of my family, and we had a few slaveowners in there. I'm not proud of it. I don't think they were unkind to their slaves, but what does that matter? People are not things to be bought and sold!
I'm so sorry for anything that any of my ancestors did to oppress your beautiful country and its beautiful culture. I'm glad it was liberated from them, and that you can make it what you want it to be someday.
Peace and luv
