Study shows alarming tourist practice

TWENTY PER cent of tourists who participated in an HIV and AIDS survey indicated that they have had sex with acquaintances that they met while on their trip to Jamaica, with only 49 per cent reported using condoms.

JUTC MESS – Sangster and Chambers accused of misleading OCG; Christie wants criminal sanctions against top exec

THE CONTRACTOR General has recommended that criminal charges be laid against the acting managing director of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, Bindley Sangster. Greg Christie made the recommendation in a report on a special probe into the awarding of some contracts at the state-run bus company.

Agriculture today – Looking down the road less travelled (Farmer asks for more youngsters to join his profession)

It is believed that it will take the active, conscious and creative participation of young people to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural sector. As such, Dr Christopher Tufton, minister of agriculture, in August launched a young farmers’ programme geared at encouraging 500 youth into the sector. But 20-year-old Miguel Mullings needed no motivation to do just that.

Student patrols – Police target delinquents in Kingston

The police were kept busy in downtown Kingston yesterday morning trying to round up students who were seemingly prepared to miss school for the day. After more than an hour, the police held nine girls and a boy – dressed in uniform – from one high school, who were absconding….
